Taman Ujung Palace is a magnificent historical site located in the regency of Karangasem in Bali, Indonesia. Also known as the Taman Sukasada Ujung, it is a popular tourist destination and a symbol of Balinese architectural and cultural heritage. The palace was built in the early 20th century by the then King of Karangasem, I Gusti Bagus Jelantik, and it served as the royal residence for the Karangasem dynasty.
The palace is situated in a strategic location that offers a breathtaking view of Mount Agung, the largest volcano in Bali. The palace was built as a recreational retreat for the royal family and their guests, and it features a blend of Balinese and European architectural styles. The complex covers an area of 10 hectares, and it comprises several buildings, including water ponds, gardens, and pavilions.
One of the most prominent features of the palace is the large water pond, which is surrounded by elegant pavilions and bridges that offer a picturesque view. Visitors can walk on the bridges and admire the beautiful scenery while enjoying the fresh air and peaceful atmosphere. The water pond is also home to various species of fish, and visitors can feed them while enjoying the beauty of the palace.
The palace also features beautiful gardens, which are a perfect place for a relaxing walk. The gardens are adorned with colorful flowers and plants, and visitors can enjoy the fragrance of the blooming flowers. The gardens also offer a great place for visitors to take pictures and capture the beauty of the palace.
Another highlight of the palace is the Gili Bale, a small island in the middle of the water pond. The island is home to a beautiful pavilion, which was used by the royal family for meditation and relaxation. The pavilion is decorated with intricate carvings and colorful murals, and it offers a serene atmosphere that visitors can enjoy.
The Taman Ujung Palace has undergone several renovations and restorations over the years to preserve its cultural heritage and maintain its beauty. The palace was damaged during the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963, but it was later restored to its former glory.
In conclusion, the Taman Ujung Palace is a must-visit destination for anyone who wants to experience the beauty and cultural heritage of Bali. The palace offers a great place for relaxation, sightseeing, and learning about Balinese history and culture. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful scenery, take pictures, and create unforgettable moments. If you are planning to visit Bali, make sure to include Taman Ujung Palace in your itinerary.
NOTE: in order to visit Taman Ujung and other attractions in East Bali (Instagram famous places like Tirta Gangga and Pura Lempuyang (“Gates Of Heaven”), white sand beaches like Virgin Beach and others), I find it most time and cost efficient to spend a few days on East Bali, particularly in Candidasa. This way, you will save both time and money (because food and accommodation costs are also much cheaper than in the tourist South).
Here is the list of some of the TOP RESORTS in CANDIDASA.
Enjoy!
